Learn the foundations of statistics and data analysis through interactive examples over four half-day sessions online
I use examples from our everyday lives to introduce you to the building blocks of statistics and data analysis, without being overwhelmed by formulae or number crunching.
What you’ll learn
Your data literacy will be developed to leave you:
- confident selecting the appropriate hypothesis test for one and two group analyses
- comfortable conveying statistical results to a variety of audiences
- appreciating how data can be manipulated to tell a certain story
- recognising why there are so many ways to collect data
This course will cover less content than “traditional” introductory stats courses, but you will leave with a deeper understanding of key statistical concepts and how to apply them.
If you have previously completed an intro stats course and all that chat about p-values, test statistics, and confidence intervals still do not make sense, you will be enlightened about these through visualisations and examples. Other topics covered include sample size calculations, and study design.
Note that, if you are looking to understand the foundations of statistics but are not interested in learning how to calculate these, that is covered in the Intro to Stats short course.
Who it’s for
The intro to data analysis course is suitable for anyone who is starting out with their own data project. This includes individuals:
- without formal statistics training
- who have previously attended an intro stats course but are still unsure of basic statistics concepts or how to select the appropriate statistical analysis to carry out
- wanting to expand their statistical knowledge
- struggling to convey statistical results to clients or colleagues
Format
This course on introductory statistics and their implementation is taught online over four half-day sessions, or over two days when in-person.
- Interactive examples and videos are used to teach the foundational principles of statistics and data analysis.
- Group size will be limited to 6 participants online for a more personalised learning experience.
- Throughout the course, no question is too simple to ask, and I allow time at the end for further questions and discussion.
